Bible Teaching

Helping those hungry for God's word better understand the Bible so it doesn't seem so confusing

Bible In A Year

Show all

Creating a daily habit of reading the Bible is really the only way to reach that point where the language and themes of the Bible can shape our minds and hearts. The problem with most Bible devotionals is that they don't tend to teach us about the Bible. They focus on inspiration or practical applications. But afterwards you're not really left knowing your Bible any better.

These devotionals seek to work through the Bible in a year, pointing out key themes and sharing background information where relevant. This means they are longer than your typical devotional, but hopefully leaving you feeling like you know that passage a little better than when you started.

Get my Bible in a Year Commentary in your email inbox as we read through the Bible in one year. I'll remind you of where you're at in the story and unpack the key beats you need to know.

About Me

Cultivating His Presence And Curating His Word

The statement above sums up my life goal. The first part, 'cultivating his presence', is all about bringing God's presence to earth, in the relationships I have and the tangible space I move in. Am I bringing peace into the situations I face? Do I leave somewhere with greater love and unity than when I found it? For me, these little things make up what it means to expand the kingdom of God.

But it's the second bit, 'curating the word of God', that is the focus of this website. It's my experience that most believers want to understand their Bible better. The problem is it's a big book, and we don't know where to start or what we need to learn. My goal is to help organise the Bible in a way that makes sense. Unpack the big picture story and the themes that run all the way through it.

Understanding the Bible is a lot like learning a language. It's something you need to immerse yourself in, to let the language, imagery, and themes wash over you. This why the main focus of this site is daily Bible readings and commentary. When we take the time to read through the Bible every day and reflect on what it means we develop a familiarity that allows us to see the themes and patterns weaved all throughout the Bible.
